Porting your MyStudio Number into your Own Twilio Account

This article is only intended for our legacy accounts that want the updated benefits of emojis and their own Twilio accounts, but want to keep the phone number that was already attached to their MyStudio account.

What is Twilio?

Twilio is a third-party communications company from which you can create an account in order to send SMS to your customers through the MyStudio platform.

In order to connect Twilio to your MyStudio account, you will need to have completed all the steps in the following articles:

What fees are associated with connecting Twilio?

One time fees

  • One time fee to Twilio associated with the A2P 10DLC registration, depending on which “brand” you fill out in the document. 
  • One time campaign vetting fee to Twilio per campaign.

Monthly fees

  • Monthly fee to MyStudio for the communication enhancement (Twilio) add-on.
  • Monthly cost to Twilio associated with the brand type you entered as well as each campaign you create, depending on your selection for the campaign use type. 
  • Per message usage to Twilio.

Pay as you go fees

  • You will need to ensure your Twilio account has funds at all times to ensure communications don’t get interrupted. This can be set up as an auto-recharge.

What is the benefit of having Twilio?

Our V2 system requires you to connect your own Twilio account in order to use SMS communication. Additionally, having your Twilio account keeps you in control of your messaging limits and allows you to send emojis and images in your texts.

What are the overall steps to set up Twilio?

The full overall steps to get Twilio connected to MyStudio are:

  1. Purchase the Twilio add-on in MyStudio.
  2. Create a Twilio account.
    • Fill out business details.
    • Upgrade from a trial plan.
    • Get or port a phone number. (You are here)
  3. Regulatory compliance onboarding (brand registration and A2P 10DLC campaign creation)
  4. Connect Twilio to MyStudio.

Porting your existing MyStudio number into your own Twilio account

Step 1: Twilio account setup

Before doing the porting steps, you will need to make sure that you have created a Twilio account, filled out your business details, and upgraded from a Twilio trial plan. Step 2: Reach out to our MyStudio customer success team

  1. In your MyStudio account, open our chat support and let our team know you would like to port your MyStudio SMS number to your Twilio account. 
  2. Provide our team with the Account SID and Auth Token you copied in the previous step.
  3. You will also need to tell us the email connected to your Twilio account.
  4. MyStudio will send a port request to your Twilio account in order to transfer your number from our account to yours.

Step 3: Confirm the port request in Twilio

You can expect to receive a port in request in your Twilio account within roughly 24 hours. To confirm these requests:

  1. In your Twilio account, go to Phone Numbers > Port & Host > Port in Requests 
  2. You will see the request listed to confirm the transfer.

Next step after setting up Twilio and getting a number

The next step is to fill out the A2P 10DLC brand registration and create an SMS campaign. These are legal verifications required by the US government if you are sending SMS to the US with a 10-digit phone number.
